Moldovan head of state meets president of European People's Party

Chisinau, 6 September /MOLDPRES/ - President Igor Dodon has had a meeting with President of the European People’s Party (EPP) Joseph Daul, on a visit to Chisinau, the presidential press service has reported.
The sides discussed the domestic and external political agenda of Moldova, as well as the entire spectrum of bilateral relations with the European Union.
Igor Dodon said that, at his recent visit to Brussels, he had had a productive and substantive dialogue with European officials. Dodon stressed that the boosting and deepening of the bilateral dialogue with EU, efficient implementation of the Association Agreement and re-establishment of Moldova’s image were extremely important for the current Moldovan leadership and the country’s citizens.
The head of state thanked the official for personal support provided to Moldova in the process of peaceful transfer of power and overcoming of the political crisis, which took place in early last June. In the context, Igor Dodon emphasized the importance of maintaining consensus within the ruling coalition and the constructive dialogue between the Presidency, Government and Parliament, in order to successfully overcome the challenges and risks faced by Moldova.
At the same time, the Moldovan president reiterated that the priorities of the present governance were based on the implementation of the reforms assumed, especially the justice reform and the one of the Prosecutor General’s Office, ensuring the country’s energy security, fighting corruption in all spheres and at all levels, promotion of policies for stimulating the economy, organization of free and fair local general elections, strengthening of democracy and rule of law state, etc.
Igor Dodon voiced conviction that the consolidated stance of the president, parliament and government of Moldova on the country’s domestic and external agenda would foster the state’s cooperation with the foreign partners, including the European Parliament.
Also, the head of state reiterated that the promotion of a balanced foreign policy, preservation of the status of Moldova’s permanent neutrality and settlement of the Transnistrian conflict were the basic goals due to ensure the country’s well-being.
