Former deputy director of Moldovan Intelligence and Security Service detained on case of expulsion of 07 Turkish citizens

Chisinau, 06 September /MOLDPRES/ – An ex – deputy Director of the Information and Security Service (SIS) has been detained on Friday, 06 September, for 72 hours. He was indicted, for exceeding the duties of work, followed by serious consequences, the General Prosecutor's Office’s information and media communication service has reported.
"The Prosecutor's Office of the Municipality of Chisinau, the Main Office, in cooperation with the officers of the Internal Protection and Anticorruption Service (SPIA) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MAI) and of the Information and Security Service (SIS), is investigating the criminal case regarding the excess of power or exceeding the duties of work, by the decision makers within the Bureau of Migration and Asylum (BMA) of MIA and SIS, in the case of declaring as undesirable persons and removing from the territory of Moldova of 07 citizens of Turkey”, says a statement of the General Prosecutor's Office (PG).
According to institution, the basis for starting the respective criminal case served the materials of the service investigation, carried out by SPIA, as well as the decision to convict Moldovan state at the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) for violating the rights of Turkish citizens, departured from Moldova to Turkey, in September 2018.
On Thursday, 05 September, in similar criminal case, the director of BMA was also charged for overcoming the duties of work with serious consequences, with the request to MAI to be suspended from office, applying preventive measure – obligatory not to leave Moldova.
Further, there are carried out criminal prosecution and special investigative measures, so as to establish the involvement and other persons involved in the case.
At the beginning of September 2018, 07 foreign citizens were declared undesirable and expelled from the territory of Moldova. By its decision of 11 June 2019, the ECHR obliged the Government of Moldova to pay €25,000 for 05 Turkish citizens, which rights were violated, the total amount for the compensation of the moral damage being €125,000 (almost MDL 2.56 mln), which is a very large damage caused to public interests.
