Maria Biesu International Opera and Ballet Festival starts in Moldova

Chisinau, 7 September /MOLDPRES/ - The 27th issue of the Maria Biesu International Opera and Ballet Festival was inaugurated in Chisinau on 6 September evening. The event started with the opera Norma by Vincenzo Bellini, stage management of Rodica Picireanu, conducted by People’s Artist Nicolae Dogotaru.
Diana Axenti, who lives in France and Paul Gaugler from the same country played the leading parts in the Norma opera, respectively, Norma and Pollione.
Attending the event, Education, Culture and Research Minister Liliana Nicolaescu-Onofrei welcomed the audience and thanked all those involved in the organization of this exceptional project, which is one of the principal symbols of culture in Moldova. The official highlighted the importance of the festival, the goal of which is not only to turn to good account the most distinguished classical masterpieces, but also to pay homage to departed soprano Maria Biesu, the one who received the well-deserved title of prima donna of Moldova’s National Opera for the unusual elegance of her voice.
According to the organizers, the schedule of the festival comprises eight shows of highly artistic value: four operas (Norma, A Masked Ball, Rigoletto and Turandot) three ballets (Swan Lake, The Sleeping Beauty and Don Quijote), as well as a gala concert.
Soloists from more countries participate in the present edition, such as: Paul Gaugler (France), Hanna Litvinova, Radu Poklitaru and Elena Starodubtseva (Ukraine), Bulent Bezduz (Turkey), Marco Caria, Daniella Capiello și Raffaelle Abete (Italy), Nester Martorell (Spain), Natalia Muradîmova (Belarus), conductors: Alexei Baklan (Ukraine), Alexandru Samoilă (Turkey), Angelo Gabrieli (Italy), Veaceslav Cernukho-Volich (Ukraine), Anton Grishanin (Russia), choreographer Ada Simone Totaro (Italy) and stage manager Andreea Battistini (Italy). Besides, the following National Opera artists will perform: Valeriu Cojocaru, Tatiana Busuioc, Petru Racoviță, Lilia Salomei, Viorel Zgardan, Iurie Maimescu, Lilia Istrati, Iurie Gasca and others.
The ballet Swan Lake by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky will be staged at the National Opera today at 18:30. Conductor – Aleksey Baklan from Ukraine. Guests: Adiarys Almeida and Taras Domitro (SUA), as well as Okawa Kaya (Japan).
The 27th issue of the Maria Biesu International Opera and Ballet Festival is held on 6-15 September and will culminate with a gala concert with the participation of artists guests Natalia Muradîmova, Nester Martorell, Diana Axenti, Florin Guzga, Sorin Lupu and of soloists of the Maria Biesu National Opera and Ballet Theatre.
The budget’s festival is worth more than two million lei.
