Moldovan president has meeting with United Nations high official

Chisinau, 7 September /MOLDPRES/ - President Igor Dodon has had a meeting with Assistant Secretary-General for Europe, Central Asia and Americas in the United Nations Department of Political Affairs Miroslav Jenča. The officials tackled subjects on the situation in Moldova and in the region, bilateral cooperation, as well as prospects for cooperation, the presidential press service has reported.
Igor Dodon said that the United Nations Organization was a reliable partner of Moldova. He thanked for the assistance provided to Moldova during two decades of cooperation for the country’s modernization and development.
At the same time, the head of state stressed that, during years, Moldova had backed the UN’s agenda as to the maintaining peace and international security, ensuring the detaching of Moldovan servicemen to UN peacekeeping operations from diverse regions of the world.
Also, the Moldovan president offered thanks to UNO for the providing of an important platform of raising the awareness of the international community about the Transnistrian conflict and for support in identifying a solution based on the observance of the Moldova’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The head of state voiced hope for the maintaining of consensus between Russia, USA and EU on Moldova, which can become a model of re-launch of a country with joint support of all world actors. Igor Dodon reiterated that the presidential institution would continue promoting a balanced foreign policy, which is a key element for the settlement of the problems faced by Moldova. The Moldovan president emphasized that the solving of the Transnistrian problem with the participation of the United States, Russia and EU would represent an example of cooperation of the strongest powers for other regions.
Also, Igor Dodon informed the high official that, in late September, he would participate in the 74th session of the UN General Assembly. At the event, the head of state will speak about national priorities of Moldova’s development and of ensuring security and peace in the region.
Miroslav Jenča welcomed the democratization processes underway in Moldova, assuring the Moldovan president of support in all sectors of common interest.
