Chisinau, 13 September /MOLDPRES/ - Moldova will benefit from financial support for the rehabilitation of the Chisinau-Ungheni railway segment. This will be possible after the governments of Moldova and France signed a letter of intent on the project’s financing in Chisinau today.

The funds provided by the French government will be meant for purchasing the automated equipment and restoration of railway segments on the Chisinau-Ungheni railway. Economics and Infrastructure Minister Vadim Brinzan made specifications to this effect, who signed the document along with Secretary of State for European Affairs of France Amélie de Montchalin.

„We appreciate the openness coming from the Ministry of Economy and Finance and the Treasury Department of France for the intention to provide Moldova with a financial loan in preferential conditions, for the development of the country’s railway infrastructure. This project is a strategic one for Moldova and will substantially improve the connection of the Moldovan railway network to the Romanian and European one,” Minister Vadim Brinzan said.

The financial support for this project has already got the first favourable notification of the inter-ministerial committee on the consideration of projects and the French government is to examine the conditions for the providing of the financial support on behalf of the Treasury.

Also, the criteria of implementation of the French financial support and the exact conditions for financing will be defined in an inter-governmental agreement signed between the cabinets of Moldova and France.
