Moldovan SP meets representatives of APCEMN

Chisinau, 15 September /MOLDPRES/ – Speaker of Parliament, Zinaida Greceanii, had a meeting, on Saturday, 14 September, with the Secretary General of the Parliamentary Assembly for Economic Cooperation in the Black Sea (APCEMN), Asaf Hajiev, and deputy Chairman of the Commission for Legal and Political Affairs, member of the Georgian delegation at APCEMN, Ramaz Nikolaishvili, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.

During the meeting, it was discussed the collaboration of the APCEMN member states and agenda of events to be held within this organisation, including in Moldova.

The interlocutors noted that APCEMN, over the years, has proved to be a successful platform for cooperation between the coastal states of the Black Sea, while also mentioning the need to make full use of the potential of organisation. In the context, Zinaida Greceanii pleaded for increased cooperation in concrete projects, especially regarding the development of infrastructure, networks and flows of transport and goods, etc.

In particular, it was underlined the usefulness of the APCEMN experience for strengthening the parliamentary democracy of the Member States. It was noted the important role of the observation mission of APCEMN in the parliamentary elections (AP) that took place in Moldova on 24 February 2019, but also in the general local elections (ALG) that will be held on 20 October 2019.

"The Parliament of Moldova is still interested in the democratic experience of the Parliamentary Assembly for Economic Cooperation on the Black Sea. The cooperation within this organisation is part of the balanced foreign policy, based upon good relations with all states, which the Moldovan authorities are currently promoting”, specified SP.

At his turn, Asaf Hajiev specified that APCEMN has been following with interest the developments in Moldova, welcoming the fact that the last elections in the Legislature of Moldova have resulted in the formation of a constructive parliamentary majority, capable of benefiting the democratic processes and citizens.

"We appreciate the priorities of the new Government of Moldova and concrete actions it has taken. We are interested in developing the traditional collaboration relationships established within the APCEMN for the increase of well – being in this region”, said the Secretary General of the Parliamentary Assembly for Economic Cooperation in the Black Sea.

Moldova was among the 09 countries that, on 26 February 1993, adopted the Declaration on establishment of the Parliamentary Assembly of Economic Cooperation on the Black Sea. Currently, APCEMN is part of the Parliaments of 12 countries on the Black Sea, including three EU members, which have committed to interact in various fields, including: commercial – economic, energy, social, educational, cultural, as well as in the fields environmental protection, tourism, local autonomy and infrastructure. More states and international organisations have observer status within APCEMN.
