Chisinau, 16 September /MOLDPRES/- Secretary of the Central Election Commission of Moldova Maxim Lebedinschi said in an interview to MOLDPRES agency that local elections represent the most important electoral process between Prut and Dniester.
"The large number of mayors and district / municipal councilors and municipal / city councilors make local elections very important for Moldovan citizens," Lebedinschi said.
He said that before 20 October local elections, the electoral lists will be updated based on the State Register of Voters so that the voter can only be registered in a single electoral list and only in one polling station. "In local elections, the general rule of voting participation is applied - according to the domicile or valid residence. Students and pupils will be able to vote only in the locality where they have their domicile / residence. The Electoral Code clearly stated that the soldiers doing their military service do not vote in local elections,” he said.
898 mayors, 11 580 local councilors, 1108 district and municipal councilors and 10 472 village / town councillors will be elected at the 20 October local elections.
