Chisinau, 17 September /MOLDPRES/ - Secretary of the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) Maxim Lebedinschi has said that “no cases were proved in which somebody else would have voted for a dead person, in the contemporary history of the Moldovan electoral processes.” Lebedinschi made statements to this effect in an interview given exclusively to the MOLDPRES State News Agency.
According to the CEC secretary, the electoral lists are printed by 25 days before the polls and they are compiled based on the state register of voters. “The electoral lists are submitted to the electoral bureaus of the polling stations and voters have right and are able to check the data from the electoral lists and can demand the exclusion of a dead person from the list by presenting his/her certificate of death,” Maxim Lebedinschi said.
Under the Electoral Code of Moldova, the voter is registered only in a single electoral list at the polling station in the territorial area of which he/she has the residence.
The general local elections will be held on 20 October 2019 and within this electoral process, the Moldovan citizens will elect 898 mayors, 11,580 local councilors, 1,108 district/municipal councilors and 10,472 village/town councilors.
