Moldovan parliament speaker meets OSCE Secretary General

Chisinau, 18 September /MOLDPRES/ - Parliament Speaker Zinaida Grecianii today met OSCE Secretary General Thomas Greminger, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.
The speaker welcomed the presence of the high OSCE guest in Chisinau at the head of a big delegation. According to Grecianii, this is a signal of encouraging for Moldova’s authorities, as well as for the entire society.
The parliament speaker thanked the OSCE for the productive cooperation, praising, at the same time, the Slovakian chairmanship’s efforts during the exercising of the mandate.
The officials made a detailed exchange of opinions on the Transnistrian subject.
The parliament speaker said the OSCE remained a key partner of Moldova in the settlement of the Transnistrian problem and reconfirmed that the peaceful and sustainable political settlement of this problem was an imperative. In the context, Zinaida Grecianii stressed the importance of the measures to strengthen trust between the citizens of the two banks of Dniester.
Thomas Greminger welcomed this approach, noting that Moldova can serve as a successful model of negotiations in the OSCE area. According to Greminger, the promotion of the rights of ethnic minorities, development of Gagauzia’s autonomy also contribute to the creation of a friendly environment for the Transnistrian settlement.
In another context, the OSCE secretary general appreciated the state’s efforts in the promotion of the rights of women, including the combating of violence and their political representation.
At the same time, Thomas Greminger encouraged the governance in its actions to reform the justice. “We rely a lot on the role and instruments of the parliament in this process and we assure you of our every support,” the OSCE secretary general emphasized.
In the end of the meeting, Zinaida Greceanii underlined once again her attachment to the maintenance and promotion of peace and security in all OSCE area.
The meeting took place within a three-day visit to Moldova by OSCE Secretary General by Thomas Greminger, to discuss with high-ranking officials from Chisinau and the Tiraspol authorities.
