U.S. Vice President says USA to continue being strategic partner for democratic transformation of Moldova

Chisinau, 19 September /MOLDPRES/ – U.S. Vice President, Mike Pence, has expressed his full support for the Government led by Maia Sandu and agenda of democratic reforms promoted by the Executive in Chisinau municipality, during his meeting in Washington with Moldovan PM, the government's communication and protocol department has reported.

Mike Pence has pointed out that USA has supported the peaceful transmission of power and it will continue to be a staunch supporter of the democratic transformation of Moldova, while restoring the rule of law and integrity of public institutions must remain major goals for the new Government.

Maia Sandu has reiterated that the basic tasks of Executive will be: a functional state, in the interests of citizens, and dismantling of corrupt system.

The PM has called for the support of U.S. authorities, including FBI, CIA and Justice Department in investigating the bank robbery case, as well as freezing assets in USA of the persons involved within robbery. U.S. Vice President, Mike Pence, has said that U.S. authorities would consider the request of Moldova to investigate this case.

Maia Sandu has specified that European integration remains the basic objective of Executive, and cooperation with USA in several areas, including in defence and security sector, is a strategic priority for Moldova.

Also, the PM has said that at the present stage there are no favourable terms for political settlement of Transnistrian conflict, and an inappropriate solution could harm the interests of Moldova.

On 18 – 19 May, PM Maia Sandu has paid an official visit to USA.
