Voter turnout exceeds 40 per cent in Moldova at 20:00

Chisinau, 20 October /MOLDPRES/ - Over 40 per cent of the citizens expected to give their suffrages today exercised their right to vote till 20:00 and thus, the validation threshold was exceeded. The voter turnout is lower than at the local elections from 2015.  

According to the online application of the Central Electoral Commission (CEC), about 1,150,000 electors voted till 20:00. Most voters, over 54 per cent – were women. Elderly people remain the most active voters at this time too. The most passive voters are persons younger than 25 years.

Till 20:00, the lowest voter turnout was recorded in Cantemir, where 36.27 per cent of the voters came to vote, Basarabeasca – 36.42 per cent, Cimislia – 37.37 per cent, Cahul – 37.83 per cent and Hancesti – 38.20 per cent of the voters.   

In the Moldovan capital, the participation rate is 35.23 per cent and here most voters were women too – over 55 per cent. In Balti, 35.39 per cent of the electors voted one hour before the closing of the polling stations.

As for the new parliamentary polls held in four uninominal districts today, CEC’s data shows that, till 20:00, 26,114 electors voted in the uninominal district No 17, about 23,922 – in the district No 33. At the same time, over 1,195 persons voted at those 25 polling stations opened in the uninominal district No 48 and 8,692 people outside Moldova, in the district No 50. No elector came to vote at eight polling stations opened in these districts.  

As many as 898 mayors and 11,580 councilors are to be elected at the local elections. The last general local polls took place on 14 June 2015.
