Chisinau, 20 October /MOLDPRES/ - The candidate of the Party of Communists (PSRM), Ion Ceban, has got most votes, 41.3 per cent, following the processing of 33 out of those 307 official reports in Chisinau and the candidate of the ACUM bloc,  Andrei Nastase, picked up 31 per cent of the votes.   .

The preliminary results show that about ten per cent of the Chisinau residents voted for the candidate of the Liberal Party, Dorin Chirtoaca, and about 4.4 per cent gave their votes for the representative of the National Unity Party (PUN), Octavian Ticu. The other candidates registered in the electoral race grabbed less than three per cent of the suffrages.

In Balti, seven out of those 59 reports were processed till 22:30. Most residents of this city voted for Renato Usatii from Our Party – 64.2 per cent; he is followed by  Alexandru Nesterovschi of PSRM, for whom 15.9 per cent of the electors voted. The candidate of the ACUM bloc, Boris Marcoci, got 7.5 per cent of the votes.

According to the Electoral Code, the candidate for the office of mayor is regarded as elected, if he/she gets more than a half of the validly expressed votes of the electors who participated in the ballot. If none candidate picked up more than a half of the validly expressed votes, a runoff election is held in two weeks with the candidates who got the largest number of votes in the first round of the elections. These two candidates are registered in the ballot papers in the decreasing order of the number of votes got in the first round of the ballot.

If more candidates pick up an equal number of votes, the district electoral council will make drawing of lots, recording the concerned fact in a report.

The candidate who gets the largest number of votes is regarded as elected at the runoff, no matter the number of voters who participate in the ballot. In case of parity of votes, the candidate who got the largest number of votes in the first round of the polls is regarded as elected.

The last general local elections took place in Moldova on 14 June 2015.
