Moldovan Socialists' candidates get 124 mayor offices at first round of general local elections

Chisinau, 21 October /MOLDPRES/ - The candidates of the Party of Socialists (PSRM) got 124 offices of mayors, including in 12 towns, at the first round of the general local elections held on 20 October. The PSRM leader, Zinaida Greceanii, unveiled data to this effect today.

At the same time, 179 candidates for mayor office on behalf of PSRM will compete in the runoff, including in 18 towns and cities.

„We have absolute majority as to the number of district councilors in four districts. Besides, we have three districts in the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia (UTA Gagauzia), where the heads are also on behalf of PSRM. In 11 districts, we rank first in the district councils. In all, we have 18 districts where the Socialists will propose the election of the district heads,” Greceanii said.

The PSRM leader also said that the Socialists would propose to the ACUM bloc to set up coalitions at the level of district and locally.

At the same time, Socialists’ observers signaled more infringements at the 20 October ballot; yet, they were not able to influence the results of the polls, Zinaida Greceanii added.
