Central Electoral Commission says mayors elected in 518 settlements of Moldova

Chisinau, 21 October /MOLDPRES/ - Mayors were elected in 518 settlements of Moldova at the 20 October general local polls and the runoff will be held in another 380 settlements. The head of the Central Electoral Commission (CEC), Dorin Cimil, unveiled information to this effect at a news conference today.    

According to Cimil, the distribution of the mandates according to the criterion of political affiliation looks as follows: the Democratic Party of Moldova (PDM) – 191 mandates, Political Party, Party of Socialists (PSRM) – 124 mandates, electoral bloc, ACUM Dignity and Truth Platform and Action and Solidarity Party (PAS) – 82 mandates, Liberal Democratic Party of Moldova – 26, Shor Political Party – 13, Our Party (PN) political party – 10, Party of Communists – 4, Political Party, Romanian People’s Party  - 2, Liberal Party – 1, Political Party National Unity Party – 1 mandate.  Another 64 mayor mandates were got by independent candidates.           

The CEC head noted that 175 candidates on behalf of PSRM, 173 ones from PDM, 167 candidates on behalf of the electoral bloc, ACUM Dignity and Truth Platform and PAS, 20 candidates on the ticket of Our Party, 44 – on behalf of the Liberal Democratic Party, 16 – on behalf of the Party of Communists, 38 – on behalf of the Shor political party and 84 independent candidates would compete in the runoff in the other 380 settlements.   

As for the new parliamentary elections, a PDM candidate, Ghenadie Verdes, for whom 13,401 Nisporeni residents voted, will have a seat in parliament instead of Vlad Plahotniuc. A candidate of the ACUM bloc, Vasile Nastase, who picked up the majority of the votes in the electoral district No 33, will become lawmaker instead of Andrei Nastase, and another candidate on behalf of the ACUM bloc, Galina Sajin, got the majority of votes in the uninominal district No 50, where Maia Sandu won at the last February polls. A PSRM candidate, Vitalii Evtodiev, for whom most residents voted in the district No 48, comes instead of an independent candidate, Viorel Melnic, who gave up his MP mandate.    

Under the Electoral Code, the candidate for the lawmaker seat in the uninominal district is regarded elected, if he/she gets the largest number of validly expressed votes.

After the reception of the official reports from all polling stations, the district electoral councils will tabulate the number of validly expressed votes, picked up by each candidate, in order to establish who will be elected. The Central Electoral Commission will give the mandates to the candidates elected and will subsequently submit to the Constitutional Court the documents for validation or invalidation of the MP mandates.
