President visits Moldovan embassy in Tokyo

Chisinau, 22 October /MOLDPRES/- In Japan, President Igor Dodon visited the Moldovan Embassy in Tokyo and discussed with diplomatic mission employees, the presidential press service has reported.
The head of state said that diplomatic relations between Moldova and Japan were established on March 16, 1992, and the mutual inauguration of the embassies in Tokyo and Chisinau took place in 2016. "Currently the bilateral legal framework includes 37 agreements between the Moldovan and Japanese governments," he said.
Dodon noted that over the past years, the Moldovan-Japanese bilateral relations have experienced a significant development, Japan being one of the most important external partners of Moldova. Also, he said that since the establishment of diplomatic relations, Japan has provided financial assistance to our country worth over 150 million dollars, mainly in the agriculture, regional development and ecology.
The head of state said that 13 companies with Japanese capital are operating in the Republic of Moldova, with investments worth 115,104 thousand lei. "According to the number of companies benefiting from investments, Japan ranks 40th among the main investors of the Republic of Moldova, and according to the volume of investments made in the share capital, it ranks 43rd", he said.
At the same time, the president pointed out that the foreign trade between Moldova and Japan registered about 54 592.48 thousand dollars in 2018. "Compared to 2016-2017, this index has increased, and the positive trend is also registered in 2019," the head of state concluded.
