Moldovan leu depreciates against U.S. dollar

Chisinau, 22 October /MOLDPRES/ – The national currency (MDL) depreciates on Wednesday, 23 October, against U.S. dollar (USD). The American dollar costs MDL17.38, with MDL 0.03 more than today.

The official exchange rates presented by the National Bank of Moldova (BNM) indicate that the European single currency (EUR) keeps its price of MDL 19.36.

The Romanian leu (RON) decreases from MDL 04.07, to MDL 04.06. The Ukrainian hryvnia (UAH) remains at MDL 0.69, the same quotation announced today. The same trend has the Russian rouble (RUB), which still costs MDL 0.27.

According to the data presented today by BNM, in September 2019, the degree of coverage of the net currency demand from the economic agents through the net foreign currency offer from individuals constituted 99.9 per cent, compared with 106.8 per cent in August 2019. Thus, compared to previous month, the net supply of foreign currency from individuals decreased by $36.2 million (– 16.3 per cent), and the net demand for foreign currency by economic agents – by $21.9 million (– 10.6 per cent).
