PSRM, ACUM bloc to have most seats in Chisinau municipal council

Chisinau, 23 October /MOLDPRES/- The Party of Socialists of Moldova (PSRM) and the ACUM bloc will have the most seats in the Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC), according to the results of the 20 October elections.
Thus, the PSRM, which has got 37.6% of votes, will have 22 seats in the CMC, ACUM bloc - 19 mandates (33.3%).
According to the preliminary data, three councilors will be from the Liberal Party, which picked up 6.35 percent of the votes. The Democratic Party of Moldova (3.97%) and the Shor Party (3.85%) will have two representatives in the CMC.
The National Unity Party (2.78%), the New Force Movement (2.13%) and the Party of Communists of the Republic of Moldova (1.69%) will have one councillor.
According to the Electoral Code, the district council submits reports on results of the elections to the district court, and the court within 10 days confirms or denies the legality of elections and validates the mandates of elected councilors and mayors. The Council is considered legally constituted after validating the mandates of at least 2/3 of the total number of councillors. The first meeting of the CMC shall be convened within 20 days from the validation date of councillors’ mandates.
On 20 October, Moldovan citizens were expected at polls to elect mayors and councillors for next four years. In Chisinau none of candidates for mayor position has managed to pick up enough votes. So the runoff will be held on 3 November. Candidates who have got the largest number of votes - Ion Ceban from PSRM and Andrei Năstase from ACUM bloc will participate.
