National Day for creation of green areas to be held in Moldova on 26 October

Chisinau, 23 October /MOLDPRES/ - Various species of trees and bushes are to be planted in Moldova within the National Campaign on the creation of green areas titled, A tree for our endurance. The campaign is to start on 26 October and will be held till late next November. Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment Minister Georgeta Mincu made statements to this effect at a news conference today.
„To ensure an efficient carrying out of the event, the government approved an action plan on the works for the creation of green areas. Under the plan, the creation of forest crops in the national forest fund is scheduled on an area of about 530 hectares. At the same time, works of helping the natural regeneration in the forest fund on an area of over 500 hectares are to be carried out. Also, we plan to carry out works of completion of forest crops, created in the previous years, on an area of more than 2,500 hectares,” Georgeta Mincu said.
The official called on the public institutions, non-governmental organizations, all Moldovan residents to fully get involved in this campaign, proving eco-civic responsibility.
At a request by the public authorities, economic agents and people willing to participate in the event, the Moldsilva Forestry Agency will make available needed planting material for the carrying out of the National Day, A tree for our endurance, when one of the most important ecological campaigns of Moldova will start.
According the chief forest engineer of the Agency, Nicolae Munteanu, those 34 nurseries of the forest enterprises from Moldova have prepared about 14 million seedlings for the current campaign. “Most planting material was demanded by the local public administration bodies, with financing from the State Ecological Fund; yet, we also have quality planting material for all interested people and for each type of ground, at accessible prices, which have not changed against the last year,” Munteanu noted.
The Moldsilva representative also said that the planting material prepared included over 60 species of trees and bushes; for the zone of Codrii (The Forests), the oak tree is the most fit and for the southern regions and the degraded grounds – acacia, sycamore maple, maple tree, willow tree, etc.
Attending the news conference, a state secretary at the Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment Ministry (MADRM), Iuliana Cantaragiu, said that “the innovating element of the event from this year consists in the fact that actions for re-establishing rivers’ protection belts will be also organized. Thus, a part of the planting material will be used for works of greening country’s rivers. The working plan was coordinated with the Apele Moldovei (Moldova’s Waters) Agency and those 16 sub-basin committees working in the country,” Iuliana Cantaragiu added.
In Moldova’s settlements, the campaign will be organized by the local public administration authorities of the first and second levels and on 26 October, on the National Day for the creation of green areas, all public institutions will get involved. Thus, on next Saturday, MADRM employees will plant seedlings on the bank of the Raut river, in the Orhei district area, while other central institutions will participate in the campaign in various forest enterprises from the Chisinau city.
The National Day for the creation of green areas, A tree for our endurance, was established under presidential decree in 1995 and is held on the last Saturday of October.
