Moldovan head of state has meeting with vice-president of Japanese International Cooperation Agency

Chisinau, 23 October /MOLDPRES/ - President Igor Dodon has had a meeting with Vice-president of the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Junichi Yamada in Tokyo. At the event, the Moldovan head of state thanked the Japanese side for the support provided to Moldova in grants and financings for various projects, including training courses for civil servants, the presidential press service has reported.
Also, Igor Dodon welcomed the opening of the JICA office with headquarters in Kiev and proposed to set up a JICA liaison office in Chisinau.
The Moldovan president said that, in the last 15 years, Japan had financed the 2KR assistance project for unprivileged farmers with 37.2 million dollars. Under this project, an overall number of 7,580 units of agricultural machines have been purchased and imported to Moldova for about 3,500 beneficiaries, thus covering an area of about 40 per cent of the country’s farmlands.
At the meeting, the president of Moldova reiterated the importance of three projects submitted to the government of Japan for consideration: modernization of equipment for firemen, worth 14 million dollars, construction of the Chisinau-based Agro-food Centre, Modernization of agricultural machines and equipment, through the mechanism of official development assistance worth 30 million dollars, for a 40-year repayment period, with an interest rate of 0.1 per cent.
In the context, Igor Dodon gave assurances that the Presidency would back the Moldovan-Japanese mutually advantageous initiatives within the development assistance programme.
At an invitation by the Japanese government, President Igor Dodon pays a visit to Japan, where he participated in the ceremony of enthronement of Japan Emperor Naruhito.
