Moldovan president has several meetings in Tokyo

Chisinau, 24 October /MOLDPRES/- During the visit to Tokyo, President Igor Dodon met with representatives of the Moldovan diaspora in Japan, discussed with the Honorary Consul of our country in Singapore and participated in the reception to promote Moldova’s image and the national wine sector, the presidential press service has reported.
Having a dialogue with our citizens, the head of state approached issues faced by them, addressed economic, cultural, legal, cooperation issues with the business environment, etc. Those present were unanimous in the opinion that the opening of the Moldovan Embassy in Tokyo facilitated access to consular services.
Dodon noted that given the commitment of the new Chisinau government to remove the Republic of Moldova from the deadlock, today, more than ever, the country's leadership needs the support and involvement of our citizens, wherever they are. Thus, the president said that the collaboration with the Moldovan diaspora remains a priority of the internal and foreign policy of our state. Currently, 156 Moldovans are staying in Japan.
During the discussion with Honorary Consul of the Republic of Moldova in Singapore Faisel Irshad, Dodon addressed ways to expand the Moldovan-Singaporean collaboration, especially in the tourism exchanges and acquire experience in the public administration and modern technologies.
In this context, the head of state assured the Consul of the support of the presidential institution and encouraged him to actively participate in promoting Moldova, including as investment destination.
At the same time, Dodon participated in the reception to promote Moldova’s image and national wine sector, organized by the Moldovan Embassy in Tokyo.
Attending the event were officials of Japanese government, diplomats, local authorities, companies importing niche products from the Republic of Moldova, members of the diaspora community, business people, etc.
The president praised the support of the Japanese side in promoting the export of Moldovan wines to Japan, including the country brand "Wine of Moldova", as well as increasing number of companies interested in exporting Moldovan wine to Japan.
In this context, Igor Dodon welcomed that during the last 3 years, the export of wine products on the Japanese market has registered a positive development. "Thus, in 2018, 270.3 thousand liters of wine were exported to this market, with a total value of 668.8 thousand US dollars, up by 80 percent compared to 2016. During the first 8 months of this year, 110.5 thousand liters of wine worth 240 thousand US dollars were exported to the Japanese market and this trend is growing ” he said.
At the end, the president highlighted the efforts of the presidential institution to promote a balanced foreign policy that provides for the establishment of mutually beneficial relations with Eastern and Western countries.
