Moldovan parliament speaker meets co-rapporteur of PACE Monitoring Committee

Chisinau, 24 October /MOLDPRES/ - Parliament Speaker Zinaida Greceanii has had a meeting with the co-rapporteur of the Monitoring Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) Maryvonne Blondin, on the sidelines of the European Conference of Parliament Speakers, Our Common European Home: the next 70 years, held in Strasbourg on 24-25 October 2019.
According to the parliament’s communication and public relations general department, the officials discussed the justice reform and the need to implement the reform according to the international standards. At the meeting, the sides stressed the necessity to attentively tackle the subject and include the Venice Commission’s opinion in the final draft.
Maryvonne Blondin is a French MP, Socialists, Democrats and Greens Group, co-rapporteur of the PACE Monitoring Committee.
The country report and the resolution on the work of the democratic institutions in Moldova were approved on 3 October 2019. The document encourages the reforms regarding the de-politicizing and independence of the institutions, especially the ones from the judicial system. PACE urged the Moldovan authorities, with the Council of Europe’s assistance, to continue efforts of improving the electoral legislation after the abolition of the mixed electoral system, to reform the judicial system, fight against corruption and money laundering and investigate the bank fraud.
