Tomi city of Japan to give Moldova 100 sakura trees

Chisinau, 24 October /MOLDPRES/ - President Igor Dodon has paid a working visit to the Tomi city of the Nagano Prefecture from Japan – one of the host cities of the Moldovan national team for the Olympic and Paralympic Games due in the summer of 2020, the presidential press service has reported.
At a meeting with the mayor of Tomi city, Toshio Hanaoka, the Moldovan head of state discussed prospects of cooperation. Igor Dodon welcomed Tomi mayoralty’s intention to make a donation of 100 sakura trees to Moldova in next spring, in order to mark the final countdown of 100 days will the starting of the Olympic Games, with the gesture symbolizing a linking bridge between the two nations.
During the visit, Igor Dodon offered a batch of highly qualitative wines titled, For friendship of Moldova’s people and the Tomi city, with the signature of the Moldovan president. The wines are to be auctioned and the funds raised will be used for overcoming the consequences of the typhoon Hagibis, which has recently hit Japan, causing material damage, including to the Tomi city.
The Tomi city of the Nagano Prefecture on 7 August 2017 was registered as host city for Moldova’s team at the Olympic Games due in the summer of 2010. On 6 October 2017, the Tomi mayor signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the mayor of the Cahul municipality, during a visit to Moldova. The next visit to Moldova by the Japanese delegation is scheduled for the first half of 2020.
