Moldovan SP takes floor at European Conference of speakers

Chisinau, 24 October /MOLDPRES/ – "Overcoming the political crisis and the peaceful transfer of power have given new impetus to international cooperation and allowed Moldova to adhere firmly to a balanced foreign policy line. This, in turn, provides for a status of neutrality and openness towards all international partners, both in the West and in the East”.

The statement was made, on Thursday, 24 October, by Zinaida Greceanii at the European Conference of Speakers of Parliaments: Our Common European Home: The Next 70 Years, held in Strasbourg, on 24 – 25 October, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.

The Moldovan speaker has mentioned that the Council of Europe and our states have the memory of history lessons, which must be taken into account. "Our citizens and our countries need a common Europe in which prosperity and peace dominate," said Zinaida Greceanii.

The Moldovan SP thanked the Council of Europe, which has been and continues to be a constant and faithful partner of Moldova, for its assistance in promoting the democratic culture and good governance. Also, Zinaida Greceanii outlined the importance of the common mechanism of the Council of Europe and European Union ensured through the Partnership for Good Governance. Also, the speaker mentioned that, during the 60 years of existence, the Convention and European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) have drawn up a persevering and striking jurisprudence for the Member States.

Referring to the unresolved conflicts, Zinaida Greceanii has reiterated that Moldova is interested in solving the Transnistrian issue in format 5+2, specifying the status of Transnistria in composition of Moldova, based on the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity, by guaranteeing human, political, economic and social rights of population.

Moldova has been a member of the Council of Europe for 24 years.
