New sustainable development projects to be launched in Moldova

Chisinau, 25 October /MOLDPRES/- Speaker Zinaida Greceanîi met with Gabriela Cuevas Barron, President of the Interparliamentary Union (IPU) at a European Conference of Speakers held in Strasbourg on October 24-25, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.

Officials discussed the current stage of cooperation, as well as joint initiatives to strengthen democracy and promote human rights. A special topic was the preparation for the fifth World Conference of Speakers in Vienna. Greceanii was elected member of the committee for the preparation of the meeting.

Greceanii opted for more active participation of the legislature in the activities organized and carried out by the IPU, as well as launching new sustainable development projects with the support of the Interparliamentary Union. The official invited the IPU President to visit Moldova next year.

The IPU was founded in 1889 and has been promoting for over a century representative democracy, international peace and security, sustainable development, human rights and women’s involvement in politics.
