Chisinau, 26 October /MOLDPRES/- Today, on National Day of Greening Prime Minister Maia Sandu together with cabinet members and employees of the State Chancellery, gave up rest on weekend and participated in planting trees, as part of the national campaign -A tree for our dedication, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
Maia Sandu appreciated the increased involvement of colleagues in the campaign and underlined the importance of afforestation of the Republic of Moldova, as the current rate is about 11%, the lowest in the countries of the region.
“We aim to reach at least 16% by 2030. Resolving environmental problems is a priority for the Government and, specifically, increasing afforestation areas. In this sense, we will mobilize external, additional resources, projects with external financing. It is good to explain to the children how important the environment is to us, because the quality of the air and the protection of the soil and the waters depend on the surface of the forest. I hope to have more similar campaigns, to show solidarity with all the citizens and to do things for the good of the community,” Sandu said.
Also, the premier said that the government is involved in solving other environmental problems, such as the lack of treatment plants and solid waste management. In this regard, an agreement was signed with the EIB and EBRD, which provides financing for the construction of three large waste collection platforms: in Chisinau, Cahul and Balti. The project will be carried out in two stages and has a total value of 200 million euros.
This year, the Moldsilva Agency prepared 14 million seedlings of 60 species for planting. It is the main national tree planting campaign in the Republic of Moldova, which, this year, is marked for the 24th year in a row and aims to mobilize citizens, groups of public and private institutions, in the greening of our country. The campaign will be held from October 26 and will last until the end of November.
