Chisinau, 29 October /MOLDPRES/ - A joint programme, supported by the United Nations Organization (UNO) and Sweden, will be carried out in the Transnistrian region on the period 2019-2022, in order to back the human rights protection.
„Sweden speaks out for the defence of human rights all over the world, being confident that each person must enjoy his/her rights and must be treated with dignity and respect. The new programme, which will be implemented jointly by six UN agencies in the Transnistrian region, is a continuation of Sweden’s efforts started in 2014, for the promotion and declaring for human rights on both banks of Dniester and extending the relations between people for peace, security and social cohesion,” Ambassador of Sweden to Moldova Anna Lyberg has said.
The programme will include activities dealing, in particular, with the protection of the rights of persons with disabilities and children, people hit by HIV/AIDS, injecting drug users, detained persons, etc. At the same time, the programme will facilitate the exchange of knowledge and the best practices existing in the field of human rights’ observance on both banks of Dniester.
„The programme will contribute to the creation of a general culture of human rights in the Transnistrian region, by reducing the inequalities between women, men and children, no matter their social status, ethnic affiliation or disability. A strategic vision will be worked out in the human rights sector through consulting the civil society and other interested decision-makers, which will help carry out more systemic interventions and make progress in the human rights field in the region,” UN Resident Coordinator in Moldova Simon Springett said.
The joint actions concerning the consolidation of human rights in Moldova’s Transnistrian region has at its basis the results of the earlier stages supported by Sweden in 2014-2016 and 2017-2018.
