Chisinau, 31 October /MOLDPRES/ - The first 50,000 doses of influenza vaccine will be brought to Moldova on 5 November. The rest of 150,000 doses are to be delivered in the next weeks.
Contacted by MOLDPRES, a head of section at the National Public Health Agency (ANSP), Stefan Gheorghita, has said that the first 50,000 doses of vaccine were part of a batch of 100,000 doses bought by the state through the National Health Insurances Company (CNAM). The cost one vaccine dose is 120 lei.
”The vaccine will be distributed to the public medical and sanitary institutions, after which the campaign of immunization of professional categories with high risk of falling sick against the seasonal flu will start. People ill with chronic diseases, employees of the troops of carabineers and border guards, rescuers, customs officers and the children from orphanages will have priority,” Gheorghita noted.
He specified that the vaccine purchased by the state was tetravalent, made in France and was recommended by the World Health Organization. Those 100,000 vaccine doses, due to be donated by partners from the United States, will be produced in Spain.
The ANSP specialist gave assurances that the delay in the bringing of vaccines did not hit Moldova, as there is a friendly epidemiological situation in the country. No flu cases have been recorded so far.
Physicians inform that the vaccination is the safest and the most efficient way of prevention of flu diseases and recommends that all those fitting the categories with high risk of falling sick with flu demand vaccination, which is free of charge. The benefits from the vaccination against influenza are: reducing the risk of the appearance of severe forms of disease and the number of people falling ill, of the visits to doctor, losses of working days or classes, as well as prevention of complications, hospitalizations and deaths caused by flu.
Statistics data provided by the Health Ministry shows that 2,151 flu cases were registered in Moldova on the period 1 October 2018 – 31 March 2019.
