ANSA to check drinking water in schools, business units

Chisinau, 27 November /MOLDPRES/- The National Agency for Food Safety (ANSA) announced on 27 November a program for monitoring drinking water quality in commercial units, public food and general education institutions. It provides for taking over 40 samples from different profile organizations.
ANSA specialists will check quality of drinking water at microbiological indices such as Escherichia Coli, Enterococci, Fecal Streptococci. The program provides for collecting 20 samples of drinking water from kindergartens and 20 samples of drinking water from schools. In addition, ANSA inspectors took samples in most of the food blocks from the general education institutions.
“Since the beginning of this year, the total number of water samples taken from the food blocks of general education institutions is 1474, out of which 256 samples were found that did not comply with the microbiological parameters in Escherichia Coli, Fecal Streptococci. Most non-compliant samples were found in pre-school institutions, ” sources from ANSA said.
To improve the situation, the specialists of the Agency jointly with the local public authorities, have undertaken renovation and sanitation of the aqueducts.
Most preschool and school institutions have contracts on the analysis of the quality of the drinking water with the accredited laboratories within the public health structures in the country.
The World Health Organization has compiled a list of 12 dangerous bacteria for which antibiotics are needed. These include Escherichia Coli, Enterococci, Fecal Streptococci.
