Chisinau, 29 November /MOLDPRES/- Alexandr Stoianoglo is new Prosecutor General. The appointment decree was signed today in the morning by President Igor Dodon.

The president said he approved the decision of the Superior Council of Prosecutors taken following the contest legally held within the parameters of democracy and the rule of law. “The appointment of the Prosecutor General is a moment long awaited by society in order to overcome the deadlock on the prosecutor's office.  I reiterate that the Republic of Moldova, at present, cannot afford to maintain a key institution in a semi-functional regime. The General Prosecutor's Office will be ensured full independence and all processes will remain outside the politics,” Dodon said.

He noted that the new prosecutor general will address society’s expectations, especially regarding the cases of resonance on robbing banking system and other economic crimes that have disturbed the national financial-banking system.

The CSP yesterday appointed Alexandr Stoianoglo as Prosecutor General. He has got 74.22 points, the highest score, by CSP members, after the interview test.

Over the years, Alexandr Stoianoglo has held several positions, including the prosecutor of Gagauzia and deputy prosecutor general. For five years he worked as a MP, deputy speaker and chairman of the National Security, Defense and Public Order Commission.
