Government determined to provide stability, predictability to investors in Moldova

Chisinau, 29 November /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Ion Chicu today exchanged opinions with the Members of the Association of Romanian Investors (AIR) on the present state of the development of business in Moldova, difficulties faced, as well as prospects for future, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.   

The prime minister thanked for good cooperation with AIR, noting that Romania was one of the main trade partners of Moldova, with the turnover reaching more than two billion dollars in 2018.

„We must continue extending the bilateral commerce and we appreciate a lot the fact that, due to Romania, Moldova is closer connected to the European market. The government of Moldova is consolidated on the European integration way. We are consistent in ensuring stability and predictability for investors in Moldova,” Ion Chicu said.     

At the meeting, the AIR members unveiled more initiatives which can be implemented in Moldova and which will contribute to developing the business environment. Among them, there are the extension of the guarantee funds for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), inventorying the infrastructure in 100 settlements of Moldova, in order to turn to good account the resources in these regions, as well as Moldova’s inclusion into a tourist route, jointly with Romania and Ukraine, in order to attract tourists from Asia. “We assure you that you will find a dialogue partner in us and we will dearly assist Moldova in the sectors dealing with the country’s economic development,” the AIR deputy president, Oana-Mihaela Motoi, said.   

The PM welcomed the initiatives and confirmed the cabinet’s openness, especially of the competent institutions, for the evaluation of each project separately and ensuring the needed process for their implementation.

The AIR representatives noted also some recommendations for the government, in order to facilitate the development of business in the region. They highlighted the necessity to provide investors with a sufficient number of working staff, strengthen the judicial system, adjust the native legislation to the European one as regards the directives of the value added tax.  

In another context, the prime minister said that he would ask for boosting the dialogue on the platform of the Moldovan-Romanian inter-governmental commission.
