Agricultural sector to be modernised, technological in Moldova

Chisinau, 30 November /MOLDPRES/ – Prime Minister, Ion Chicu, has expressed the respect and high appreciation for the work and dedication of agricultural workers, during a festive ceremony organised on Saturday, 30 November, on the occasion of the Day of the agricultural worker and manufacturing industry, the government's communication and protocol department has reported.
“For me agriculture has a ground definition – it is the field, which deals with the work of the land for the purpose of producing food. No matter how far science has gone, man remains fully dependent on what the fields produce – and you are the ones which bring bread to our tables. A fact for which we thank you from the soul!”.
According to data, an amount of 30 per cent of population of Moldova activates in agricultural sector, which produces about 12 per cent of GDP. In this context, PM has said that the Government will focus upon modernisation and technologicalisation of agricultural field, including implementation of projects attracting young persons in agriculture and develop new goods.
The Premier has confirmed that Executive has the objective of restoring the confidence of citizens in state institutions, including in development of national economy, where the agricultural sector plays a very important role. And the current model focused on the field sale of primary agricultural production, is outdated and does not generate surplus value for farmers, so PM has said that these processes need to be modernised.
The day of the agricultural worker and the processing industry has reached the 25th anniversary in 2019. The event was attended by the President of Moldova, Igor Dodon, MPs, representatives of diplomatic missions, but also development partners.
