Venice Commission President to visit Moldova

Chisinau, 19 December /MOLDPRES/- Following the invitation of Speaker Zinaida Greceanii, President of the European Commission for Democracy through Law (Venice Commission) Gianni Buquicchio will pay a visit to Moldova on December 19-20. The delegation also includes Simona Granata-Menghini, Deputy Secretary of the Commission, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.
Gianni Buquicchio will meet with Greceanîi, and later with head and members of the legal commission for rules and immunities. Also, the delegation of the Venice Commission will have meetings with judges and representatives of civil society.
On the second day of the visit, the president and deputy secretary of the Venice Commission will meet with Ion Chicu, Prime Minister of Moldova, and with Fadei Nagacevschi, Minister of Justice.
Gianni Buquicchio and Simona Granata-Menghini will also meet with members of the Superior Council of Magistracy and with the judges of the Supreme Court of Justice.
The invitation of the speaker addressed to the leadership of the European Commission for Democracy through Law to visit Moldova is part of the country authorities’ efforts to reform justice, reiterating the importance of the assistance and expertise of the Venice Commission in implementing the reform.
