Moldovan PM attends Central European Initiative's summit in Rome

Chisinau, 19 December /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Ion Chicu today attended the Summit of the Central European Initiative (CEI), held in Rome. The organization marks the 30th anniversary of its foundation, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
In his speech, the PM said that CEI had become an inter-governmental engine for regional cooperation between the countries of the Central, Eastern and South Eastern Europe and contributed to the strengthening of the dialogue with EU.
The prime minister noted that the government would act transparently, predictably and efficiently. “In this way, we want to get the support of the citizens for the important reforms. Our partnership with EU is of strategic importance. The cabinet remains firmly committed to implement the Association Agreement with EU. We will work intensely to observe the democratic principles, improve the rule of law state, with special emphasis put on the justice sector’s reform and fight against corruption at all levels,” Ion Chicu said.
The PM confirmed openness for continuing the cooperation with the new leadership of the European Commission, focusing on the justice reform, carrying out the investment projects in the energy infrastructure, enhancing the social well-being and modernizing the economy.
„The policy to provide European prospect has always been a strong advantage of EU and it should not become weaker. This is the reason for which we will boost efforts to improve the bilateral cooperation and deepen the relations with EU within the Eastern Partnership,” the prime minister said.
The CEI summit brought together heads of government from Albania, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Italy, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia and Ukraine.
