Parliament ratifies draft between Moldova and European top bank on purchasing gas in emergency situation

Chisinau, 20 December /MOLDPRES/ - The draft on the ratification of the agreement on support of the project on reimbursement, Instrument of purchasing gas in emergency situation, between Moldova and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), signed on 11 December 2019, was passed by the parliament today.

Under the draft, the agreement’s signing was necessary, in order to ensure the security of Moldova’s supply with natural gas, in the context of the uncertainty as to the continuation of the transit of gas from Russia across Ukraine as of 1 January 2020.

According to the document, EBRD will enforce an instrument of issuance of a letter of credit, at a request by Moldova, worth up to 50 million U.S. dollars, in order to buy a volume of natural gas on the Ukrainian market or on markets of the European Union.
