The event took place at the Palace of the Republic, in the presence of the head of state, prime minister, governor (bashkan) of Gagauzia, MPs and cabinet members, representatives of Local Public Authorities, diplomatic corps accredited in Chisinau and civil society, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.
In her congratulatory message, Zinaida Greceanii said that the political agreement on the creation of Gagauzia’s autonomy within Moldova had led to the settlement of a difficult political situation, established after 1990. The law led to the stabilization of the relations between Chisinau and Comrat and opened wide prospects of development for the region.
According to the speaker, at present, the efficient mechanisms of cooperation between Moldova’s central authorities and the administration of Gagauzia’s autonomy are important elements for ensuring dialogue and achieving consensus in the country.
Zinaida Greceanii stressed that it was quite important for Gagauzia’s voice to be heard throughout Moldova, first of all, at the parliament’s rostrum.
”I am firmly sure that the involvement of the lawmakers of the People’s Assembly in the activity of the parliament’s working groups and the discussion of up-to-date drafts for the autonomy will help correct the legislation and settle current problems faced by the region’s residents,” Zinaida Greceanii said.
At the same time, the parliament speaker stressed the interest in extending the cooperation between the parliament and the People’s Assembly for the benefit of all Moldovan citizens. In the context, Greceanii specified that one of the priorities of Moldova’s parliament was to develop the social and economic potential of Gagauzia, as a guarantee of the social stability and residents’ well-being.
”In these conditions, we ensure a legal framework and necessary conditions for stimulating the business environment and investments, in order to increase the volume of investments in Gagauzia, and based on Gagauzia’s example – in other regions of the country as well,” the speaker added.
It is worth mentioning that the law on the special legal status of Gagauzia was adopted on 23 December 1994, signifying the creation of the Gagauz autonomy as part of the Republic of Moldova.
