Moldovan president participates in solemn meeting on 25th anniversary of Gagauz autonomy's foundation

Chisinau, 23 December /MOLDPRES/ – Top leadership of Moldova and President Igor Dodon have participated, on Monday, in the solemn assembly dedicated to 25 years since the adoption of the Law on the special legal status of Gagauzia, the presidency’s press service has reported.
In his speech on it, the head of state mentioned that the creation of the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia corresponded to interests of development of Moldovan young state, which was at the stage of its formation and it was carried out in close cooperation between the central authorities and the ones of Gagauz autonomy. Igor Dodon stressed that this was an example for other states in the world how an ethno – political conflict can be resolved peacefully and in the interest of the whole state.
"Certainly, furtheron, through joint efforts, we shall take care to strengthen the legal status of the Gagauz autonomy on the basis of modern European and world standards," noted the President of Moldova.
The head of state wanted to emphasise that the joint working group, as recently updated, resumed its activity in Parliament of Moldova and gave assurances that the package of laws for Gagauzia would be promulgated only after a consensus has been reached between all involved parties.
Also, Igor Dodon expressed his satisfaction that, for the first time since the independence of Moldova, the originating persons from Gagauzia being widely represented at Government level, in Parliament, etc.
President of Moldova welcomed the fact that despite all issues and difficulties, the Gagauz Autonomy is successfully developing and acquiring modern outlines. In this context, Igor Dodon said that Moldovan leadership, both today and in perspective, would pay special attention to inhabitants of Gagauzia, support economic development of the region and its cultural diversity.
