Moldovan president meets governor of Gagauz autonomy

Chisinau, 26 December /MOLDPRES/ - President Igor Dodon today had a meeting with Bashkan (governor) of Gagauzia Irina Vlah and lawmakers of Moldova’s parliament, who represent the autonomy, Fiodor Gagauz, Aleksandr Suhodolski and Ivanna Koksаl.
According to the presidential press service, the sides discussed the situation in the Gagauz autonomy and the one in Moldova, in general, as well as the plans for 2020.
Igor Dodon welcomed the fact that the joint working group, the composition of which has been recently updated, had resumed its activity in Moldova’s parliament, in order to adjust the autonomy’s legal acts with the national legislation.
At the same time, the head of state said that, at an invitation by the speaker of the People’s Assembly (local parliament) of Gagauzia, Vladimir Cissa, he would participate in one of the first meetings of this legislative body next year, during which the situation in the region and the problems faced by the autonomy will be analyzed.
At the same time, the sides tackled details on an official visit to Turkey Igor Dodon is to pay along with PM Ion Chicu and Bashkan Irina Vlah on 29-30 December, at an invitation by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
At the visit, the Moldovan president will chair the first meeting of the high-level Strategic Cooperation Council. Also, the sides plan to sign more bilateral agreements.
