Moldovan president meets head of Great National Assembly of Turkey

Chisinau, 31 December /MOLDPRES/ – President of Moldova, Igor Dodon, had a meeting with the head of Great National Assembly of Turkey, Mustafa Sentop, on Monday, in Ankara, the presidency’s press service has reported.
During the discussion, Igor Dodon mentioned the upward pace of the Moldovan – Turkish political dialogue and appreciated good cooperation established between the Legislatures of both states, as at the levels of leadership and parliamentary groups of friendship and parliamentary commissions.
The officials found with satisfaction that there is a broad bilateral legal framework that includes 72 bilateral treaties, and 16 treaty projects are under negotiation. Igor Dodon welcomed the fact that on 30 December this list was to be expanded with 04 more treaties, which are to be signed at the first meeting of the High Level Strategic Cooperation Council.
In this context, Speaker of Parliament informed Igor Dodon that on 21 December, the Turkish Legislature ratified the Interstate Agreement that provides for mutual assurance of social protection of citizens.
President of Moldova thanked the authorities of Turkey for their assistance to Moldova and, in particular, to Gagauzia, within social, cultural, humanitarian fields, etc. The head of state stressed that Moldova relies on continuity of the provided support.
Also, Igor Dodon expressed interest in strengthening Moldovan – Turkish interparliamentary cooperation within international organisations, as well as in combating international terrorism.
The interlocutors pleaded for intensification of exchange of visits between two Legislatures at all levels, including at the level of friendship groups – the recent visit to Chisinau of the members of parliamentary friendship group of Turkey with Moldova took place in 2017.
Moldovan President thanked for invitation addressed to Parliament Speaker of Moldova, Zinaida Greceanii, to participate in celebrations organised on the occasion of marking 100 years since the creation of the Great National Assembly of Turkey, which will be held on 23 April 2020.
