Premier meets Head of EU Delegation in Moldova

Chisinau, 3 January /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Ion Chicu today had a meeting with Head of the EU Delegation to Moldova, Ambassador Peter Michalko. In the beginning of the meeting, the officials congratulated each other on the New Year and mutually wished success in the work, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
The prime minister informed the EU official about the last measures undertaken by the cabinet to implement the Moldova-EU Action Plan, in order to transpose the European Union’s standards. In the context, the sides highlighted the ratification of the Istanbul Convention and the adoption of the draft law on procurements in the sectors of energy, water, transports and post services, thus adjusting the national normative framework to EU directives.
A special subject of the discussions was the evolution as to the implementation of the justice reform. The PM specified that a set of decisive acts in the justice reform process would be submitted to the Council of Europe for consideration today. One of these documents is the draft law on assessing the judges, which also implies the participation of European experts. The prime minister also said that the new mechanism could be enforced including when evaluating the prosecutors’ integrity and professionalism.
In another context, the sides exchanged opinions on the extension of the trade quotas in EU, situation as to Moldova’s supply with gas in 2020 and the need to finish the construction of the Iasi-Ungheni-Chisinau gas pipeline.
