Chisinau, 8 January /MOLDPRES/ - The flow of people represented 44,814 crossings of the border on the first day of the old-style Christmas. As many as 20,088 of them were registered in the direction of exit from Moldova and 24,726 crossings – in the direction of entering the country, according to data by the Border Police.
According to the institution, 22,499 crossings were made by Moldovan citizens, of which 13,726 – in the direction of entering Moldova.
The most transited border checkpoints were: Leuseni – 8,947 crossings by people and 2,265 – by transport means.; Chisinau International Airport – 8,341 crossings by persons; Sculeni – 5,018 crossings; Giurgiulesti-Galati – 3,156 crossings, followed by the border checkpoints Otaci (2,697), Cahul (2,635), joint checkpoint Criva (2,418 crossings).
„On the second day of Christmas, all border checkpoints work as normal,’’ Moldova’s Border Police has said. For this, additional working measures are enforced at the border crossing, meant to ease the cross-border traffic on the period of the winter holidays: supplementing the number of border policemen of first control line; opening the movement for families with children on the free lanes, including the one of the Diplomatic Corps, etc.
In the context, the Border Police warns people who plan a travel to Romania or EU countries that the Leuseni border checkpoint was the most demanded one: ‘’An increased flow is recorded between 04:00 and 10:00 at the exit from the country and between 16:00 and 22:00 at the entry into Moldova. Thus, to shorten the waiting time at crossing the border through this point, we recommend that you plan the travel by taking into account the periods of crowding, as well as choose other border checkpoints situated at the Moldovan-Romanian frontier (Sculeni border checkpoint, Costesti border checkpoint or Cahul border checkpoint).
At the same time, if a travel to Ukraine is planned, citizens should know that the most crowded border checkpoint is Criva. An enhanced flow through this border checkpoint is registered at the exit from Moldova between 04:00 and 12:00 and at the entrance into the country between 15:00 and 20:00. ‘’In this respect, we recommend that you choose the border checkpoints in the immediate neighbourhood, such as: Larga-Kementsy or Briceni-Rossoshany, where the flow is poorer and the crossing of the border – quicker,’’ Police Border sources said.
