Chisinau, 23 January /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Ion Chicu, accompanied by the bashkan (governor) of Gagauzia, Irina Vlah, visited the district hospital from the southern Vulcanesti town today. Fourteen physicians, 65 medical assistants and 40 technical employees work at the hospital. The medical institution was founded in 1956 and serves the residents of the Vulcanesti district – about 24,000 people, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
The hospital is in a final phase of modernization – a process backed by the government of Turkey. The institution’s leadership informed the PM about the investments made on the last period, as well as the problems they were still facing, the most pressing one being the lack of qualified staff and modern medical equipment.
The prime minister talked with the patients and medical personnel, noting that the medical and sanitary institutions represented an important element in the infrastructure which determines the life quality.
Ion Chicu thanked the medical staff for the affectionate attitude towards the patients, describing it as not less important than the treatment itself. The PM informed about the cabinet’s intentions as to the development of the medical system, among which there is a ten-per cent increase in the salaries of the medical staff, approved at the last government meeting.
