Chisinau, 24 January /MOLDPRES/ - President Igor Dodon today participated in the official ceremony on the commemoration of the Holocaust victims at the Yad va-shem official memorial in Jerusalem. On behalf of the people of Moldova and on his own behalf, along with his 50 counterparts from abroad, Igor Dodon laid a wreath of flowers in the memory of those six million Jews, exterminated by the Nazi and their allies on the period of the World War II, the presidential press service has reported.
The head of state said that the tragedy of the Jewish people had taken place also on the territory of our Motherland which, during the war years, was occupied by the German and Romanian armies, which destroyed about 300,000 Jews. “The Holocaust is a dreadful lesion, yet very important for the entire mankind, which proves us the importance of preserving peace and harmony. Such a thing must never repeat,” Igor Dodon said.
It is worth mentioning that, in November 2015, Moldova’s parliament ruled to declare the day of 27 January as the Holocaust Victims Remembrance Day.
