Joint Control Commission holds new meeting in Bender

16:00 | 24.01.2020 Category: Official

Chisinau, 24 January /MOLDPRES/ - The Joint Control Commission (JCC) members assembled in Bender on 23 January, in order to discuss and find solutions to the most urgent problems identified within the peacekeeping operation, the Reintegration Polices Bureau has reported.

Being consistent on the earlier set forth position as to JCC’s obligation to react to any event which may disturb the balance in the Security Zone, the delegations of Moldova and Russia insisted on the inclusion on the agenda of the subject on verifying and analyzing the situation in the Security Zone, after Tiraspol had unilaterally extended ‘the “competences” of its so-called “border guard” troops. The representatives of the OSCE Mission and Ukraine in the Commission welcomed the proposal. Nevertheless, the subject failed to reach the agenda of the meeting, as the Transnistrian side opposed to it.

During the consideration of the report of the Joint Military Command on the situation in the Security Zone for 15-21 January 2020, the participants in the meeting found out that the report did not show data on the illegal setting by Tiraspol of a mobile customs checkpoint on the road between the villages Roghi and Molovata Noua on 20 January. Moldova’s delegation describes these actions as infringement of the Moldovan-Russian ceasefire agreement from 21 July 1992 and impediment to the free movement of citizens and goods.

After long-lasting and tough discussions, the sides failed to reach consensus on the concerned issue and therefore the subject’s consideration was postponed and will be continued at the meeting due next week.
