Chisinau, 27 January /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Ion Chicu is on a working visit to Poland, to participate in the 75th anniversary of the liberation of the concentration camp Auschwitz-Birkenau, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.

In the morning, the PM had a working meeting with the head of the administrative board of the Polish company Sinergia Trans, Bogdan Marek Gruszka.

Subsequently, the prime minister, along with other officials, took part in a ceremony on commemoration outside the Death Gate of the former concentration camp, Auschwitz, which is presently a museum and memorial. The event brought together heads of state and government from about 60 countries.

The ceremony started with a speech by President of Poland Andrzej Duda, followed by a message of the president of the World Jewish Congress, Ronald S. Lauder. The participants in the ceremony put candles at the Birkenau monument, thus commemorating the drastic consequences of Holocaust.

Today evening, the PM had a working meeting with the pharmaceutical company, Hasko-Lek, member of the Economic Council under the President of Poland, Stanislaw Han.

Under the United Nations’ resolution, the International Holocaust Remembrance Day is marked on 27 January. Thus, more states annually mark this date, thus paying homage to those about six million Jews, as well as to representatives of other nations, exterminated by the Nazi regime in the concentration and death camps.
