Moldova-USA strategic dialogue provides needed framework for strengthening bilateral relations

Chisinau, 28 January /MOLDPRES/ - President Igor Dodon today had a meeting with a delegation of the U.S. Department of State, led by Deputy Assistant Secretary at the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs Jorgan K. Andrews and Deputy Assistant Secretary of the State Department's Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor Alan Purcell. Attending the meeting was Ambassador of the United States to Moldova Dereck J. Hogan, the presidential press service has reported.
The officials discussed aspects of the bilateral cooperation in more sectors of mutual interest, including the consolidation of the rule of law state and good governance, reforms’ implementation, etc. Igor Dodon reiterated that the strategic dialogue established between the two countries provided the needed framework for the further strengthening of the bilateral cooperation between Moldova and the United States. He welcomed the activity of the working groups set up within the strategic dialogue.
The head of state thanked for the support of the USA in the promotion of reforms in the justice sector, fighting corruption, consolidation of the institutional capacities of the ministries and agencies from Moldova.
Also, the Moldovan president stressed that the implementation of the justice reform and the fight against corruption was a priority for the current governance. Igor Dodon noted that these major goals would be achieved consistently and transparently, according to a model accepted by the foreign partners, civil society, professionals from the system, as well as the political forces – government and opposition.
In the end of the meeting, the head of state gave assurances that the present governance was determined to fulfill all commitments taken by Moldova before the foreign partners.
