Chisinau, 29 January /MOLDPRES/ - President Igor Dodon, in his speech given at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), today asked the European institutions to support the Moldovan citizens and not the parties.
„I would like Moldova to no longer be described as pro-Russian, pro-European, pro-American or pro-Romanian. We have citizens who, at the same time, can support all these directions or none. It is more important that we embrace the democratic values, not generate geopolitical stereotypes,” Igor Dodon said.
The head of state specified that his goal was to unite all citizens and he wanted to combat “the false political division, created by the political parties in their race to get a segment of electorate whom they are to control exclusively.”
Dodon stressed that to be pro-European “does not mean only to be politically attached to a European political group, but it means the capacity to take over and implement the European values in Moldova.” He asked the European institutions to no longer five blank cheques to any political party from Moldova.
President Igor Dodon pays a working visit to Strasbourg. The head of state will have meetings with the leadership of the Council of Europe (CoE), PACE, Venice Commission and European Court of Human Rights, as well as with the diplomatic corps accredited to CoE.
