Moldovan president meets Council of Europe Secretary General

Chisinau, 29 January /MOLDPRES/ - President Igor Dodon had a meeting with Council of Europe Secretary General Marija Pejčinović Burić in Strasbourg today.
According to the presidential press service, the head of state congratulated the official on her election as Secretary General of the Council of Europe, assuring her of Moldova’s support in the exercising of this mandate.
Igor Dodon appreciated the Moldova-CoE dialogue and the interest with which the developments in Moldova were followed. At the same time, the Moldovan president welcomed the doze of constructive criticism needed in order to adjust the national efforts.
The head of state reiterated that the justice reform represented the priority No 1 for the current governance and encouraged the activity of the ad-hoc working group for justice reform. The Moldovan president stressed that Moldova needed support to give final touches to the draft justice reform strategy, develop the concept of assessing the judges and prosecutors according to the present standards, prepare amendments to the Constitution. Igor Dodon said that together we had the unique chance to move in the right direction.
Given the marking of the 25th anniversary of Moldova’s accession to Council of Europe this year, Igor Dodon made Marija Pejčinović Burić an invitation to pay a visit to Chisinau on 18-20 May 2020.
