Moldovan president meets Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights

Chisinau, 29 January /MOLDPRES/ - President Igor Dodon, during a visit to Strasbourg, today had a meeting with Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights Dunja Mijatović, the presidential press service has reported.
The head of state thanked Dunja Mijatović for the constant support of the Council of Europe and openness for assisting Moldova on the reforms’ way.
Igor Dodon stressed that the adoption of the 2018-2022 National Action Plan in the Human Rights Sector had been possible including due to the Council of Europe’s support through the 2017-2020 CoE’s Action Plan for Moldova.
The Moldovan president also said that this plan had an important role in the process of Moldova’s positive transformation and the national authorities were fully committed to implement its provisions.
A special subject of the discussion was the situation dealing with the defence of human rights in the Transnistrian region, which triggers concern of Moldova’s constitutional authorities. In this respect, the head of state reiterated that the leadership further relied on the involvement of Council of Europe’s partners.
In the end of the meeting, Igor Dodon invited Dunja Mijatović to pay a visit to Moldova, including the Transnistrian region.
