Moldovan head of state has meeting with president of European Court of Human Rights

Chisinau, 30 January /MOLDPRES/ - President Igor Dodon had a meeting with President of the European Court of Human (ECHR) Rights Linos-Alexandre Sicilianos in Strasbourg on 29 January, the presidential press service has reported.

During the dialogue, Igor Dodon said that Moldova had always appreciated the work of the High Court, which is one of the best known European courts among the Moldovan citizens.

In the context, the head of state stressed that Moldova had become part of the European Convention on Human Rights in 1997. Dodon noted that the state’s efforts would be further oriented to improve the system of national remedies and ensure an efficient and coherent implementation of the Convention, as well as to fully enforce the ECHR rulings.    

In the end of the meeting, the Moldovan president reiterated that Moldova declared for a balanced diplomacy between East and West, as well as for maintaining intact the Court’s jurisprudence, which ensures and guarantees stability in the country and the region.
