Moldovan foreign affairs ministry makes specifications on United Kingdom's withdrawal from EU on 1 February 2020

Chisinau, 31 January /MOLDPRES/ - The Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry (MAEIE) on 27 January 2020 was officially notified by EU about the exit of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland from the European Union and the European Atomic Energy Community (Euratom) as of 1 February 2020, the MAEIE’s public diplomacy, strategic communication and media interaction service has reported.
According to the Exit Agreement, signed on 24 January 2020, a transition period is established between EU, Euratom and the United Kingdom starting from 1 February till 31 December 2020, with possibility of extending it by 24 months at the most. On this period, the EU legislation continues to be enforced in the United Kingdom. On the transition period, the Great Britain will also be ascribed to the EU member states.
On the transition period, the international treaties and arrangements without compulsory power, concluded between EU/Euratom or by other member states on behalf of EU or the EU/Euratom and the EU member states, will continue to be enforced in relation to the United Kingdom too.
Moldova took note of the United Kingdom’s withdrawal from the EU and Euratom, as well as of the enforcement of the treaties concluded between Moldova and EU, especially the Association Agreement, in relation to the United Kingdom on the transition period.
